The Story of the Kelly Gang
|
Description |
 |
Originally running at over 60 minutes when it premiered in Melbourne in 1906, The Story of the Kelly Gang is arguably the first feature-length fiction film ever produced. After an exhaustive global search and 25 years of painstaking work the NFSA has collected 17 minutes of the original footage, overseeing a meticulous restoration which is presented here for a new generation of viewers.
Included in the box set are a DVD featuring multiple versions of the restored footage and an insightful 208-page monograph written by Kelly historians Dr Ina Bertrand and Dr Bill Routt.
Special features on the DVD include both an experimental soundtrack by Endorphin and a piano accompaniment by Mauro Colombis and commentaries by film historian Ian Christie and the NFSA's Senior Curator of Moving Image, Graham Shirley. There is also a 'Before and After' reel demonstrating the details of the restoration process.
